When you test the parking brake you release the lever just enough to make the brake light go out, then you check the holding power in third gear, if it's off just a little it will not allow current to pass.

Anyone with similar problems your suggestions would be most welcome please. The serial number of the JCB is 3D298122/P and it has a perkins 4.236 motor

I believe that the left pedal ("clutch") operates by breaking the electrical signal for both forward and reverse to the transmission, so you might want to also check it for continutity in the non-depressed mode.
